Its estimated that one in 10 men or over30 million men in the U.S. have erectile dysfunction, and that there is an age related increase in the prevalence of ED: 40 percent of men in their 40sexperience mild, moderate, or severe ED, increasing to almost 70 percent of men in their 70s.
The recent 2006 Keeping Sexual Intimacy Alive Survey of 801 men and women in four U.S. cities was prepared by the EDi, which is working with world-renowned sex therapist Dr. Ruth Westheimer to dispel myths about erectile dysfunction. Other surprises the survey yielded:
Sexual Intimacy Isnt Only For the Young: 84 percent of men surveyed and 72 percent of women say they expect to be sexually active with their significant others into their 60s and beyond.
Any Cure That Wont Kill Them: More than one-quarter of the men surveyed (26%) said they would do anything that didnt kill them to cure ED should they experience it. And 20 percent of women surveyed would WANT their man to do anything that wouldnt kill them to cure their ED.
From Surgery to Prayer to Cure ED: Should they ever experience ED, one in three men surveyed (34%) said they would pray for help, while 15 percent of survey respondents said they would have surgery to receive a penile implant. Men surveyed in the Southeast were at least twice as likely to say theyd resort to prayer for help with ED,
The emotional impact of ED on patients and their partners will be discussed. Spouses or partners are invited and encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be served, and the presentation will last approximately one hour with time for questions afterwards.
